Formby Youth Theatre [FYT] aims to help young people to develop confidence, creativity and social skills within the context of community theatre.
FYT is open to young people of all races and backgrounds who are keen to develop their interest in drama and performance. The ethos of FYT is that of an ensemble, where young people work together as a company to put on productions, attend workshops and professional performances and enhance their knowledge and skills as members of a team and community.
FYT is aware that most of its members will not go into the professional theatre so its aims are to promote transferable skills involving creative, personal and social development. FYT aims to develop young people’s understanding of their society; to develop tolerance for those who may be different from themselves and to explore their own potential in order to make wise decisions for the future.
FYT also aims to develop a critical awareness of excellence in theatre, through visits to local theatres, play readings, workshops and productions. FYT aims to challenge young people to fulfil their potential both as individuals and as members of an interdependent group.
FYT meets on Tuesday evenings at Formby Little Theatre, off Rosemary Lane, Formby, from 5.30-7.30 each week during term time.
